IP development plan
The strategy will be to ensure security for the investment and to protect unique selling features. An IP inventory will be maintained. The IP portfolio will be expanded thru chosen development projects and by acquisition.
New IP will be developed to broaden the capability of the ERC system and to permit additional end products beyond formic acid: chemicals, fuels and building materials. New processes will be collaboratively developed to use these products into new, multi-billion dollar markets. Carbon negative plastics are a promising area in which to use formic acid; this approach would replace use of petrochemicals and create unique value thru IP. Patenting will parallel this work. Carbon negative building materials can also be produced, similar to Calera (a competitor).
Mantra owns the intellectual property PCT applied for WO 2007/041872, Continuous Co-current Electrochemical Reduction of Carbon Dioxide. This was acquired from Professor Colin Oloman’s company in 2008 after 7 years of development at the Clean Energy Research Laboratory at the University of British Columbia. Global patenting underway – examinations in process in Australia and Europe. See: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?WO=2007041872.
