SEATTLE, WA, March 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Mantra Venture Group Ltd. (OTCBB: MVTG - FSE: EDV 5MV) confirms that it has initiated the national phase of the patenting process for its carbon dioxide reduction technology. Acquired by Mantra in 2007, the process for the "Continuous Co-Current Electrochemical Reduction of Carbon Dioxide" was developed by Dr. Colin Oloman and Dr. Hui Li at the University of British Columbia's Clean Energy Research Center (CERC) in Vancouver. The national patent process is a continuation of the efforts started by Dr. Oloman who filed the initial patent application for the invention under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 2006. David Warren, CFO of Mantra, said "This is the first step in an ongoing process that will eventually see the technology patented world-wide". This first phase of patenting by Mantra will see the process started in Europe, Japan and the Peoples republic of China ("PRC"). "These markets are very important to us, especially the PRC where we have made significant progress with our partners, and given the PRC's reliance on fossil fuel power production, we see an excellent fit", Mr. Warren continued. The national phases for other countries, particularly the US and Canada, will be initiated in the near future. Mantra, through its group of sustainable energy, carbon reduction and consumer product subsidiaries, is active in the green technology marketplace with an innovative, multi-faceted approach focused on profitability through sustainability. By aggressively seeking out new technologies and innovating solutions for a cleaner environment, Mantra intends to provide a highly profitable and socially responsible investment for its shareholders.
